How we think about design
A dream that travels through a watercolour sketch and, steeped in values, is reborn as a favourite in your home.
Every experience of motherhood and parenting is different, and none of them are easy. Caring for a child takes enormous mental effort and a constant stream of decisions aimed at their well-being: researching, weighing things up, adapting, putting it into practice… and hoping it works out.
We want to offer a little peace of mind to the families who choose our designs: our quality standard comes from making objects for our own children and putting them to the test in the real jungle of family life. We don't compromise on anything: sustainability, functionality, safety, and aesthetics are the foundation of everything we make.
Our wish is for Cocolitos objects to become your little ones' favourites, loved and used for many years to come.
The foundations of every object
Every Cocolitos piece answers to four criteria that admit no exceptions. Far from abstract values, they're the filter every decision passes through, from the first sketch to the last detail of production.
Sustainability
We think through every material and every shape to extend the life of the object: single materials that don't deteriorate the way composites do, and shapes that make the most of the raw material. The result is a design that ages well and will, eventually, break down naturally.
Functionality
Every object is designed with its function first: easy to use, solving a real need, not just looking good. The MerryCube stamps, for example, have four stampable faces on a single piece, and the two free faces let you stack them into a little tower in the room.
Safety
Safety is a starting criterion. We work with national suppliers and certification bodies that guarantee the highest standards and full traceability for every material, from the wood to the dyes. If a material doesn't meet it, it doesn't make it into the design.
Aesthetics
We think of aesthetics as both an educational and a decorative tool: visual simplicity helps a child focus on what matters. We look for an open aesthetic, not boxed in by gender, that brings warmth to the home: not toys that get put away, but pieces that are happy to stay in view.
Every stage, together
We design objects that accompany the discovery of the world through play, where every child finds their own way to explore, at their own pace and driven by their own curiosity.
Independence
We design from a deep respect for each child's own development, understanding that independence is an inner capacity that unfolds naturally when it's nurtured, by preparing an environment of trust and safety.
We create objects meant to enable action, inviting safe, self-directed exploration at each child's own developmental pace. Real, meaningful learning happens when the child leads their own process: playing on their own initiative, observing their surroundings, freely repeating a gesture until they've made it their own.
Free play
In pedagogy, free play is childhood's activity par excellence: an inner, spontaneous impulse with no end goal set by an adult. That's why every Cocolitos object is designed as a blank canvas, one that can be explored in very different ways depending on the child's stage of growth and whatever interests them at the time.
There's no single right way to use them, because we steer clear of directive materials; we favour open-ended play, where a poster is gazed at in wonder at one and read with curiosity at three, or a stamp becomes a tool for endless creativity at any age.
Creativity
We understand creativity as an innate, genuine capacity of childhood, a fundamental tool through which a child processes the world, expresses their emotions, and finds their own solutions. That's why we want every Cocolitos object to invite exploration beyond its obvious use, acting as a catalyst for divergent thinking.
A stamp doesn't have a single, fixed function like printing; it's a starting point for inventing stories, creating secret codes or discovering unexpected geometric combinations. We design materials that are essentially open-ended, respecting a child's inner world without dictating paths or imposing final outcomes.
