Cocolitos began quite naturally: trying to bring to life, little by little, a list of midnight ideas that started coming to me during the summer nights of my first year as a mother, alongside memories of the plasticine characters I used to make with my father as a child. That's where the name comes from, and it's also where the way we work comes from: slowly, deciding on each piece with care, never trying to grow faster than the brand can genuinely sustain.
It's just over two years since Cocolitos started to take shape. In that time I've been designing and producing every object in Barcelona, choosing materials one by one (FSC® certified wood, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I cotton) and learning, often through trial and adjustment, to build a collection of varied objects that grow with a child through different stages.
This week, La Vanguardia published a feature on Cocolitos in its Empresas de Vanguardia section, written by Sara Casas. It's the first time someone from outside has told the story in their own words, and reading it has been a way of seeing, from the outside, work we'd only ever described on this page.
For this piece, I asked Sara Costa (@saraseaside) if she could come and take some photos at home. It had been a while since we'd last seen each other. The way she sees the world came through beautifully in a series of photos I'll be sharing over the coming days.
